Purpose of the job
The Strategic Billing Platform Manager is responsible for the ownership, governance, operational performance and continuous improvement of the Strategic Billing Platform and associated billing capabilities.
The role acts as the accountable owner for the Billing Platform ecosystem, ensuring Billing Platform, Salesforce Revenue Cloud, Finance systems, Data Platform and associated integrations operate as a stable, scalable and supportable enterprise capability.
Working closely with Product, Finance, Operations, Technology and Data teams, the role is responsible for platform strategy, service performance, governance, roadmap management, vendor relationship management, billing data quality, platform lifecycle planning and continuous optimisation of the end-to-end billing capability.
The role ensures billing services remain aligned to business priorities, operational requirements and finance controls whilst driving automation, standardisation and simplification across the billing landscape.
Key Responsibilities
· Own and manage the Strategic Billing Platform, ensuring it remains stable, scalable, supportable and aligned to business, commercial and operational priorities.
· Define and maintain the Strategic Billing Platform roadmap, governance model, support model, design standards and best-practice operating principles.
· Act as design authority for Billing Platform configuration, data model extensions and customisation decisions, ensuring the platform remains maintainable, upgradeable and aligned to enterprise architecture standards.
· Own the platform operating model across Billing Platform, Salesforce Revenue Cloud, Finance systems, Snowflake/Data Platform and associated integrations.
· Own service performance and operational health of the Billing Platform, including platform availability, operational KPIs, service reviews, incident trend analysis and continuous improvement activities.
· Define and maintain integration standards between Billing Platform, Salesforce Revenue Cloud, MSD, DocuSign CLM, Snowflake, Finance/ERP platforms, Vertex and other relevant systems.
· Define and maintain API contracts, event schemas, message standards, error handling, retry logic, monitoring and data lineage across key billing integration touchpoints.
· Own platform-side governance of the middleware layer from a Billing Platform perspective, ensuring integration design remains supportable, resilient and scalable.
· Partner closely with the Salesforce Platform Manager to ensure Revenue Cloud and Billing Platform capabilities remain aligned through the agreed platform operating model.
· Own the integrity, governance and quality of billing data across Billing Platform, Revenue Cloud, Finance systems and the Data Platform.
· Work with Data Platform teams to establish and continuously improve billing datasets, reconciliation datasets, financial reporting datasets and operational insight capabilities.
· Ensure billing processes remain compliant with finance controls, audit requirements, regulatory obligations and operational policies.
· Lead continuous improvement initiatives that reduce manual intervention, improve reconciliation accuracy, increase automation and simplify operational processes.
· Own platform lifecycle planning including upgrades, release impact assessment, technical debt management, capacity planning, security posture and long-term sustainability.
· Act as primary point of contact and senior stakeholder for the Billing Platform vendor relationship, including product roadmap engagement, escalations, licensing considerations and adoption of platform capabilities.
· Monitor platform usage, adoption, service performance and operational outcomes, using insight to drive standardisation, optimisation and continuous improvement.
· Apply knowledge of finance processes, controls, compliance, risk management and multi-entity / cross-border billing operations to platform decisions.
· Own the strategic roadmap for retirement and decommissioning of legacy billing components as platform maturity increases.
· Provide clear updates on platform performance, service health, risks, roadmap, vendor activities and strategic priorities to stakeholders across Finance, Product, Data, Operations and Technology.
· Maintain a strong understanding of Agentforce and emerging automation capabilities that can improve billing operations, billing support, reconciliation activities and billing-related decision making.
Knowledge, skills and experience required
· Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Business Technology or equivalent experience.
· 5+ years’ experience managing a Billing Platform, Revenue Platform or similar commercial / finance platform.
· Practical experience with Salesforce Revenue Cloud, CPQ, pricing, contracting and order-to-cash processes.
· Strong understanding of Billing Platform operating models and platform governance.
· Strong understanding of end-to-end order-to-cash and billing processes.
· Experience integrating Salesforce with billing, finance, ERP, data and operational platforms.
· Experience managing enterprise platforms within a governed platform, Centre of Excellence or enterprise architecture model.
· Experience working with third-party SaaS vendors, product roadmaps, platform licensing and vendor escalation processes.
· Strong understanding of platform lifecycle management, upgrades, release planning and technical debt management.
· Experience working with Snowflake or equivalent enterprise data platforms.
· Strong understanding of billing data, reconciliation data, financial reporting data and data governance principles.
· Understanding of finance operations, audit requirements, billing controls, reconciliation and compliance obligations.
· Experience using platform metrics, operational KPIs and service performance indicators to drive improvement.
· Strong stakeholder management across Finance, Product, Data, Operations and Technology teams.
· Ability to balance operational demands, governance requirements and strategic platform development.
· Experience operating in Agile delivery environments.
Strong understanding of platform integration patterns and cross-system dependencies.
