Purpose of the job
The Head of Data for Finance Operations & Billing is responsible for building and leading the enterprise data, analytics, and intelligence capabilities that support Finance Operations, Billing, Revenue Assurance, Treasury, and Commercial Finance.
Working in close partnership with the Group FP&A, this role ensures Finance has trusted data products, scalable analytical capabilities, and operational intelligence that enable better planning, forecasting, financial control, and business decision-making.
The role owns the Finance Data Domain within the Global Analytics organization, including financial data products, operational intelligence, semantic models, data quality, and analytics capabilities. It complements the Finance Analytics function by providing the enterprise data and intelligence foundations required for Finance to operate effectively.
Key Responsibilities
1. Finance Data & Intelligence
• Build trusted Finance data products that enable reporting, planning, forecasting, profitability analysis, and operational decision-making.
• Develop reusable Finance semantic models, certified datasets, and enterprise metrics that support Finance Analytics and the wider business.
• Deliver operational intelligence across Finance Operations, Billing, Treasury, Revenue Assurance, and Commercial Finance.
• Ensure Finance has timely, trusted, and governed data to support strategic and operational decisions.
2. Finance Operations & Billing
• Lead the enterprise data capability supporting Finance Operations, Billing, Revenue Assurance, Treasury, and financial operational processes.
• Improve visibility into billing performance, collections, adjustments, reconciliations, revenue leakage, and operational efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to simplify and automate Finance operational processes using data and analytics.
• Establish operational KPIs that proactively identify risks and improvement opportunities.
3. Revenue Assurance & Profitability Intelligence
• Develop data products that improve revenue assurance, profitability visibility, and financial transparency.
• Build profitability models across clients, products, regions, and commercial portfolios.
• Support Finance and Commercial teams with trusted intelligence for pricing, margin analysis, and portfolio performance.
• Deliver analytics that improve financial performance while reducing revenue leakage.
4. Partner with FP&A
• Partner closely with the Head of Finance Analytics and Group FP&A to support budgeting, forecasting, planning, and scenario modelling.
• Provide trusted data products, semantic models, and analytical capabilities that improve forecast quality and financial planning.
• Align Finance priorities with the enterprise data strategy and analytics roadmap.
• Jointly identify opportunities where advanced analytics and AI can improve financial decision-making.
5. Finance Data Products
Own and continuously evolve Finance-focused data products including:
• Profitability & Portfolio Intelligence
• Revenue Assurance Intelligence
• Billing Intelligence
• Forecasting & Planning Intelligence
• Treasury & FX Intelligence
• Financial Operations Intelligence
Ensure all Finance Data Products are scalable, trusted, and aligned to business priorities.
6. Finance & Billing Data Governance
• Own the Finance Data Domain and partner with the Data Governance to ensure enterprise standards are consistently implemented.
• Define Finance business rules, metrics, master data, and standard calculations.
• Improve data quality, consistency, reconciliation, and certification across Finance datasets.
• Ensure Finance data complies with governance, audit, and regulatory requirements.
7. Leadership & Capability Development
• Build and lead a high-performing Finance Data team.
• Foster strong partnerships across Finance, FP&A Commercial, Product, Technology, Data Governance, Analytics Engineering, Analytics Enablement.
• Drive a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making.
• Mentor and develop analytics professionals while promoting engineering excellence and scalable delivery practices.
Knowledge, skills and experience required
• Strong experience with:
o Financial data modelling
o Billing analytics
o Profitability analysis
o Revenue assurance
o Forecasting support
o Enterprise reporting
o SQL & Tableau to manage the team
• Understanding of cloud analytics platforms and modern data ecosystems.
Person Specification
• Bachelor's or master's degree in data, Analytics, Computer Science, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 15+ years of experience in Data, Analytics, Business Intelligence, or Finance Data functions, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven experience building and leading high-performing analytics or data teams in complex, global organizations.
• Experience partnering with Finance, FP&A, Billing, Treasury, and Commercial teams to deliver enterprise data and analytics capabilities.
• Experience delivering enterprise-scale data products, operational analytics, and financial intelligence solutions.
