Purpose of the job
The Senior Financial Accountant will work within the Insurance finance team of the Collinson Group. They will work as an integral part of the finance team with the Financial Reporting Manager, supporting the production of monthly management accounts, the statutory accounts and regulatory reporting and being key points of contact during the audit process.
The Senior Financial Accountant will be responsible for supporting the Financial Reporting Manager in reviewing the monthly management accounts for accuracy of the results. They will support any process/ system changes within the team and ensure a strong and effective control environment exists with a specific emphasis on improving month end close and associated reporting.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Financial Accountant will deputise for the Finance Reporting Manager and support the wider team when needed, ensuring a collaboration across the deliverables
Support the Financial Reporting Manager to establish and maintain high quality and timely management accounts
Review of period related P&L trend analysis and analytical reviews to ensure Group and the business have a good insight into key movements and the financial performance of each entity, highlighting any exceptions to management
Support the Financial Reporting Manager with the reviews of the month end journals: revenue accruals, earning journals, IBNR, claims paid, profit share journals and any ad hoc adjustments required, and support the Financial Accountants as required with variance analysis and any other ad hoc requirements
Support the Financial Reporting Manager with the reviews of the month end result as required
Deliver the IFRS17 reporting, with consideration for Quarterly regulatory reporting, ensure this is reported through to WTW (Malta Management agent) within agreed deadlines and all queries addressed
Deliver the year end disclosures and accounting policies for IFRS17 within agreed timelines, with support from the Finance Project Lead, and all assumptions/ decisions to be supported with evidence
Deliver the Quarterly Finance Solvency II reporting for the UK and Maltese entities, ensuring all reporting is delivered to the Actuaries within agreed timelines
Deliver the year end Solvency II reporting for the UK and Maltese entities, ensuring all reporting for the UK entity is managed and reported through to the Bank of England within strict deadlines, this deliverable will be supported by the Finance Project Lead with the Actuaries being a key stakeholder
Work with Commercial Underwriting to implement changes from the Reserving Committee and analysis the impact of these changes on the technical result
Support Finance Operations to ensure all transactions processed are accurate and complete and recorded in a timely manner
Support the Financial Reporting Manager on all audits (including but not limited to, internal, 3rd party or year-end), reviewing the year end Group Statutory packs with supporting evidence for balances as required as well as assist with managing audit requests ensuring the evidence for audit samples is sufficient to support the sample requests and performing the walkthroughs with explanations for postings and processes
Support the completion of VAT, Corporation Tax, IPT and any 3rd party reporting as required
Assist with continuous embedding and delivery of Finance Transformation projects
Ensure robust controls are in place and look to enhance where possible
Ensuring all process documents are regularly reviewed and updated
Strive to deliver process improvements, delivering ‘best’ in class processes
Approve supplier payments
Knowledge, skills and experience required
Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or Equivalent) or qualified by experience
Good knowledge of SAP system preferable
High personal levels of motivation and delivery orientated focus working well under pressure
A proactive, forward looking and challenging mindset
Detail focused with strong organisation and planning skills
Ability to interact with and develop working relationships internally and externally in order to achieve best outcomes for the business and customer
Ability to encourage, train and develop the junior members of the team
Knowledge and experience of best practice within industry to consistently improve delivery within department
